Grading Policy
PCA grading system is consistent among all teachers. A raw point system is used in which the student’s average is calculated by dividing the total number of points earned by the number of points available to earn. At the end of the grading period if your child earns 115 points out of a possible 124 points their average would be a 93%. The PCA policy for retesting states “If the class average on any given assessment is below a 76% ( D-) they will be given extra support through re-teaching, small group instruction or individual instruction, and then given the opportunity to increase their grade by retaking a similar assessment. If the class average is above 76%, it is at each teacher’s discretion whether or not to offer a retake.
Test
All tests will be announced at least 3 days prior to the testing and will be written in the student’s agenda book and available on our virtual classrooms. Again, ALL assessments will need to be signed and returned for your child’s portfolio.
Homework
We feel that homework is a very important aspect of a child’s progress and improvement. It will follow up on the day’s lesson, reinforce concepts, or give them a spiral review of other standards taught later in the year. Homework will be given Monday through Thursday. We will do our best not to overload the students. Your child is responsible for copying daily homework assignments from their teacher’s “HOMEWORK BOARD” into their agenda book. Assignments can also be found on the virtual classroom web pages. Incomplete homework will result in loss of recess or a workroom assignment during recess to complete the missing assignment.
Lockers
Each student will be assigned a locker. Parents are responsible for providing a lock with combination or key. A copy of the combination/key will be kept with the teacher and office. Lockers will be assigned alphabetical order and students will have designated times to use lockers. Lockers are to be kept clean and neat. Adhesive decorations will not be permitted.
Book Covers/Assignments
Math, Reading, Writing and Social Studies books will need to be covered by the 2nd week of school to ensure proper care throughout the year. Each student will be assigned a numbered book in which they are responsible for. Students will report all damage upon receiving the textbook and record the page numbers on a textbook contract, kept by the teachers. Books will be examined for at the end of the year for any new damage that may have occurred. Lost or damaged books will need to replaced by the parents.
Thursday Folders
Every Thursday students will be bringing home their “Thursday Folder” (provided by PCA). In this folder you will find important information such as :graded papers, flyers, newsletters, upcoming events, field trip permission forms, etc. First, please keep all of the documents on the side labeled “KEEP.” Then, sign and return the assessments/documents on the “SIGN & RETURN” side. Finally, sign off on the log located on the back of the folder to signify communication among parent, student, and teacher has been accomplished.
Bathroom Use Policy
Students can go to the bathroom without interrupting classroom instruction. However, there are SPECIFIC TIMES to do so. Times are consistent in each classroom and posted as a visual reminder for students. They may leave to use the restroom after the first 15 minutes of class. ONE PERSON may sign-out at a time for bathroom use. If the bathroom logs are filled out incorrectly, or a student consistently visits in every class, the student will receive a warning. If it occurs again, the student will be banned from the bathroom for one week.
